The title basically describes what this painting symbolizes with its abstract shapes and overall composition. But there are a few things you should understand about it that will truly make it more personal.
I visited the home of John and Libby Todd and met their pet dog “Burn” late one afternoon. Several of “Burns” toys were brought out and “Burn” began to enter into his own little world. He seemed to pay specific attention to a set of three plastic keys attached to a bright yellow key ring. This also caught my attention as an artist, and I decided to make them the focal point of the painting.
I detached them from the key ring to give them the playfulness that the painting needed and suspended them around other shapes, which for me represent the magic and memories that surround “Burn” and his love for these keys.
The two squares at the bottom left and right hand corners are painted in reds and yellows to represent the burning passion that “Burn” has for this, his favorite toy. Inside the left square is “Burns” left front paw print and inside the right square is “Burns” right front paw print. This shows that he is poised and ready for these keys to once again take on the role that has been etched within his memory, the role that ushers in excitement and adventure.
My wife looking at the painting replied; “It looks as if we are viewing what “Burn” himself sees when he looks at those keys”
I like that interpretation.
