"Get Behind Me Satan"
48" x 18" Oil on Canvas

This
painting is very symbolic. In Mathew 16:21 and following, our Lord
Jesus Christ began to explain to his disciples that he must go to
Jerusalem, suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests
and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third
day be raised to life.
Peter began to rebuke our Lord saying, ”Never Lord, this shall never happen to you!”
Jesus
turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me Satan!” You are a stumbling
block to me. You do not have in mind the things of God but the things
of men.”
The lily in this painting that is fully opened represents
Christ. The blossom that has yet to open represents Peter. Behind Peter
is an ominous red shape that comes out of the darkness. This represents
satanic thinking, which opposes God’s plan. The colored shapes within
the darkness represent the truth of God’s Word and how it exposes evil
for what it is and the deception and lies of Satan.
