Jean and Elise wanted the family portraits painted in a casual style and at the beach. Originally it was going to be a 42”x 90” with the entire family on one large canvas, but they wondered “What if we have another child?” My solution to this was to keep the same total size but break it up in separate canvases. Each canvas is 42”x 18” and a separate portrait on its own and can be hung by itself or as a group. Each portrait is designed to hang in a specific order approximately four inches apart, thus creating the grand feel of an even larger canvas than was originally considered. Notice how the background ties them all together.
