About the Artist

T.S.Carson was born in Hitchin, England, in 1963, while his father was in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in England at that time.

T.S.Carson’s childhood was spent in various cities in Alabama. Living in Montrose, Alabama at the age of 12, T.S. became interested in art. He began drawing in pencil and with the help of Robbie Wolff, who was owner of the local art supply store, he began working in pen and ink. This was the beginning of his artistic career.

T.S. continued drawing throughout high school, creating a few watercolor, oil, and acrylic pieces.

He married Sherry Romoser in 1982 and at that point his artwork took a backseat to the rigors of making a living. T.S. worked as a silkscreener and a house painter for a while but the majority of the 15 years that followed were spent installing flooring.

While on a lunch break, from work (1987), T.S. had gone into an art gallery that was having a showing of impressionistic paintings and he fell in love again with art. But this time it was a greater love and a desire to paint in oils.

It has been "trial and error" through the years, in learning how to paint. T.S. has never had professional training in painting and this is what, he believes, has allowed him to develop a style that is uniquely his own.

T.S. Carson
In his own words

I began painting in oils around 1987 and over the years have been influenced by a number of artists and styles of painting. I am self taught and I believe because of this fact I have absorbed, like a sponge, many of these elements of painting technique and style. My work is very representational but with that there are STRONG influences of expressionism, impressionism, abstract and art nouveau.

I love technique. My technique is probably more impressionistic than anything, ( influenced by the American impressionists and not so much by the French impressionists) it usually consists of tight, well organized brushstrokes which at times I have to fight against so that it does not completely take over.

In my paintings each object flows into the other, in a balancing act of give and take, complementing the composition and in-turn the composition complementing each object.

As an artist I have a strong desire to always push the boundaries of my own creativity. In doing so I am able to learn something new with each piece of art I create. This allows my paintings to constantly mature and evolve, but at the same time maintain a consistancy that is ever present and always recognizable as uniquely T.S.Carson. This is essential for me as an artist. If it were not then my paintings would become more of a chore than a passion. And it is within this passion that I am most creative.
